Transforming the discourse of leadership

In 2024, the understanding that gender should not determine someone’s potential as a leader is widely accepted. Leadership abilities should be based solely on individual qualities.

Yet, despite more women than ever stepping into leadership roles, trust in female leaders is declining. In 2022, The Reykjavik Index for Leadership, which measures perceptions of men's and women's suitability for leadership, revealed a dramatic drop in trust towards women leaders within a single year. More recently, a 2024 poll by Verian and Reykjavík Global indicated that young people are increasingly 'prejudiced' against women in leadership positions.

There's an urgent need to redefine the discourse around leadership. We must challenge and change the outdated perceptions and biases that continue to undermine women's leadership. But how can we achieve this? Industry leaders offer their insights on redefining leadership to create a more inclusive and equitable environment.
