PRESS RELEASE
CIM announces new appointments to further strengthen its construction committee
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has announced new appointments to its Construction Industry Committee (CIMCIG). Gemma Middleton, Toby Cope and Catherine Fyfe will build on the group’s work on sustainability, promoting the value of professional marketing competencies in the construction industry, the image of construction and ensuring a diverse range of voices are heard.
Head of marketing for development at Sanctuary, one of the largest housing associations in the UK, Gemma Middleton, joins the CIMCIG committee as a communication ambassador. From working in social and private sales to supporting in-house construction as well as being the customer with well-known industry contractors, Gemma brings diverse experience to the board.
Keen to be as active as possible in raising the profile of marketing and its importance within construction, as the industry recovers from the effects of COVID-19, Gemma said:
“Marketing can help businesses in construction recover from the pandemic by helping to educate what the industry is facing as well as reminding audiences of the importance the construction industry plays to the wider economy. It is also very important to promote and celebrate all recent, past successes and these successes do not have to just be completions and start on site, but the impact that construction development has in local communities.”
Meanwhile, Toby Cope, head of marketing and communications at architecture practice Cartwright Pickard, and a newly appointed ambassador on the CIMCIG committee, will look to use his experience to advocate best practice and the value that marketing can bring to any business within the construction industry when done right. Toby said:
“I'm fascinated by the built environment and interested in the broader challenges facing construction and how marketers can help the industry to tackle them. With 45% of global carbon emissions attributed to construction, there is no denying that our industry has a pivotal role to play in tackling challenges such as the climate emergency.”
Catherine Fyfe, divisional marketing director at Polypipe Building Services, joins the CIMCIG committee completing the new host of appointments. Catherine, Gemma and Toby will join existing members – each with their own marketing specialism – to offer strategic input and operational support to empower marketers working in construction.
Catherine said: “I’m a firm believer that marketing is integral to business strategy and will be pivotal in a post covid world. We have a lot of work to do in improving the way we communicate product information to construction product stakeholders, so training and supporting the implementation of the code for construction product information will be high on the agenda.”
James Ellis, CIMCIG committee chair concluded: “These latest appointments broadens the specialist knowledge on the committee, drawing on valuable marketing experience and skills. Allowing CIMCIG to drive further value for CIM members and marketing professionals within the construction industry.
“COVID-19 has challenged how marketing can support business revival plans. Marketers have a great opportunity to deliver real value to businesses, and the CIMCIG committee are working hard to promote best practice marketing within the Construction Industry, enhancing competence and skills of marketing professionals.”
