PRESS RELEASE
PAT NORWOOD SCHOLARSHIP 2019
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and The North West School of Marketing are proud to announce the Pat Norwood Scholarship 2019.
In memory of Pat Norwood, who sadly passed away after a short illness in 2016, the North West School of Marketing is offering those currently employed or volunteering within the not for profit sector, the opportunity to complete a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualification through the scholarship.
After graduating from Queen’s University in the 1970s, Pat escaped the Troubles by emigrating to America, where he spent his adult life. He worked tirelessly as a volunteer within his local and adopted community, as a President of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Greater Pittston, and a Coach to boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
The successful candidate of the scholarship will have their tuition fees for the qualification funded by the North West School of Marketing, which was founded by Pat’s sister, Marian Norwood. To support this initiative, CIM Ireland will fund the annual membership fee for the successful candidate.
Tori Phillips, a recipient of the 2018 Scholarship said: “I recently completed my CIM Digital Diploma in Professional Marketing at the North West School of Marketing, through the Pat Norwood Scholarship. Working within the third sector, with limited access to paid training, the Scholarship offered a chance to increase my skill set, with no cost to the charity.
The Diploma was challenging, but highly rewarding. I have been able to diversify my skills and take on additional duties within my organisation. Marian at the North West School of Marketing made the learning process so enjoyable and the peer support I received was invaluable.”
Discussing the scholarship, Eileen Curry, chair of CIM Ireland said: “We are pleased to support the Pat Norwood Scholarship for another year. The scholarship is a great way of remembering Pat Norwood and the work he carried out in his local community. I would like to say a huge thank you for everyone involved in the project and wish all the candidates all the best in their applications.”
