By Bryndley Walker, PR Executive, CIM
29 March, 2023 - Over 500 graduates and 21 MCIM, FCIM and Chartered Marketers graduated at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Graduation Ceremony and Membership Investiture 2023 which was concluded recently.
The occasion was graced by Sarah Hulton OBE, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, who was the Chief Guest, as well as Ruchitha Perera, a member of CIM’s Board of Directors, Chris Daly, Chief Executive Officer, CIM and Maggie Jones, Director of Qualifications and Partnerships, CIM.
Delivering the graduation address, Chris Daly commended the graduates’ hard work: “This achievement requires determination, method, and consistency, and does not come easily. I know that all of you have worked really hard over the months to reach this milestone.”
Touching on the difficult economic situation, Daly continued: “It is important to acknowledge that these economic challenges also present an opportunity for us to stand out as a sector. Out of all the functions present in the boardroom, marketing is the only one that is constantly championing the customer, while looking forward and anticipating to meet their future needs.”
A total of 541 graduates received their certificates for the September/December 2021, and April/July/September 2022 periods. Among them, 17 special awards were presented including a world prize for CIM Level 7 – Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Marketing. During the ceremony, a total of 21 members were inducted as MCIM, FCIM and Chartered Marketers.
Congratulating the graduates on successfully completing their certifications, despite the multitude of recent economic and societal challenges, Country Head of CIM for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Onalie Dissanayake said: “These challenges have served to underline the importance of marketing’s role. Corporate leadership relies on consumer insights and an understanding of the market in order to respond to developing challenges, changing customer behaviours and discovering new opportunities” she reflected.
Dissanayake continued: “CIM’s mission is simple. We are here to support you at every stage by providing the support needed to meet your ambitions by validating your knowledge, enhancing your experience, and developing your skills,” as she expressed CIM’s commitment to the growth of its alumni, which includes providing training courses, opportunities for further qualifications, and continuing professional development programmes.
Reminding graduates of the importance of continuous learning, Senior Ambassador in Sri Lanka for CIM, G. S. Sylvester commented: “The certificate you have received today doesn’t signal the end of your learning, but a start of a wonderful journey. It is the first milestone of your professional studies in the field of marketing and management.” Concluding with the vote of thanks, the Senior Ambassador extended his appreciation to all the participants and personnel who made the Graduation Ceremony and Membership Investiture 2023 a success.
A CIM qualification offers graduates an opportunity to become a member of the global alumni network, opening up a host of opportunities within the marketing industry. CIM works to continuously revise and improve its suite of qualifications which are designed to empower Sri Lankan marketers by equipping them with the skills they need to operate at the highest level. Key to this is digital marketing skills, which CIM has incorporated in its course module since 2010. This specialised digital marketing diploma allows budding marketers to brush up on their digital skills and prepare themselves for the future.
CIM is the world's largest and most prestigious professional body for marketing, with one of the world’s largest alumni memberships in professional marketing. CIM in Sri Lanka serves 3,000 members and 1,000 studying members and is the largest CIM community outside of the UK. Its courses help marketers to elevate themselves in their professional careers while creating value and fostering excellence in Sri Lanka's business landscape.
